Active Release Technique
Active Release Technique (ART) is a deep soft tissue massage that is designed to tackle overused muscles, scar tissue build-up and adhesion. A lot of athletes can overuse their muscles (and other soft tissues), or have repetitive use and recurring injuries that cause their muscles to develop scar tissue which can build-up over time. This build-up causes the muscles to become weaker and shorter, allows tendonitis (tension on the tendons) to occur, and nerves to get “trapped” resulting in numbness and weakness in the affected areas.
Overuse can result from acute conditions such as pulls, tears, collisions, micro-traumas (a collection of small tears) and hypoxia (lack of oxygen). Symptoms include headaches, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, shin splints, shoulder pain, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, knee problems and tennis elbow.
Active Release Technique can loosen up tight muscles, correct bio-mechanical imbalance and give symptomatic relief as well as increase movement. League Sports Rehab Doctors are certified full-body Active Release Technique providers and are trained in over 500 methods they can tailor to each individual client.
